Hello all
I have searched as much as I can about proper pitch and size of props for the outboards but couldn't find my answer. I just purchased a 2004 Sweetwater pontoon, 24', with 115 Yamaha 4-stroke on it. It has an aluminum 15 pitch prop on it, a few dings and such. It came from Omaha NE, a lot lower altitude. I am here in Casper WY, right at 5300 ft above sea level. If anyone is in this region or similar altitude, what do you run for pitch and type of prop? Thanks

I would drop one pitch, and that should get you pretty close.

What is your full throttle RPMs currently.

As for my performance right now I have no idea. Just purchased it at the beginning of the month of Feb. and haven't had it in the water yet, still lots of thick ice! The prop that is on it right now needs either rebuilt or replaced and I was just wondering if others at this altitude had any suggestions. I understand it all depends on how the boat is loaded and such. I am hoping that the Yamaha 115 is as good as I have read about. Thanks for your input.

When I'm running at "low" elevation (5,000 feet or so - like Horsetooth), I run a 15" prop on my 115 Merc.

When I'm at "higher" elevation (like Granby, Dillon - 9,000 feet elevation) I drop to a 13.

Now that I slip it for the whole season at Blue Mesa (7,500 elevation), I've switched to a stainless, at just 12".

If Mercury made a 13" stainless, I would run that.
