Trailer protection?...

Has anyone ever tried clear coat on their galvanized trailer?
Or does anyone know a good idea to prevent rust from salt water use?
We clear coat our toons, seems like we could do something for the trailer.

I don't know about clear coating a trailer, but one thing I found years ago to be a really good protectant of metal like cars, trailers, etc. etc. was "ProtectAll".

I usually buy it at Wally, but here is a pic of the gallon jugs

Hint, Don't use it on a shower floor as it's slicker-n-snot when wet.

I've used it on vehicles and seen bird poop slide off.

Yes. I use it on my trailer, but it's painted.

I'm not sure how it'd work on galvanized.

I also use it on windshields and vehicles.

The protect all or a c,ear Coat?

It's not a "Permanent" coating and is very easy to apply.

Well, my last trailer was galv. Also and it still rusted out. I've found here in fl. A galvanized trailer is still gonna rust in time so I was just thinking of a preventative measure to maybe slow down the rusting process.

As far as the clear coat. I Was thinking of the stuff that's used for pontoon tubes not automotive

Rinsing with fresh water after every use is about your best bet, any "protective coating" would also be needed on the inside of the frame, that's where most corrosion starts.

With your last galvanized trailer, did you give it a fresh water washdown after every use? I have P.S.owned a dual axle galvanized Performance trailer since 1997. Most of our boating is in the Gulf or Intercoastal Waterway. The whole rig gets a washdown every time we bring it home. Some of the bunk bolts have rusted but overall my trailer is in excellent condition. Also, how would you coat the inside of the trailer beams/tubes?

Yeah I washed it down every single time.

With all the Sharkhiding I've done and the good luck I have had with it, I put a coat on my Prowlers trailer. It looked so good, I put 2 coats on my boat trailer. It shines like its brand new and rinses off really good. Its about the closest thing to clearcoat, you can get. I am going to apply it to my Prowlers frame when I get it back together from installing my off road racing seats his week. The mud should fall right of it.
