Newbie wants to clean logs on toon.
Hi all, new to toons. I have a 2001 Crest Superfish 22 that has been in the water 11 months and has a good algae growth on it. I have read all sorts of methods and would like some input. I would rather not use any acid type products because I don't want to damage my logs. I personally don't want to spend weeks polishing them either. I have a pressure washer and was thinking of trying it first with some detergent. The toon is currently residing in Dale Hollow Lake. Any and all suggestions are welcome. BTW I did search and read some previous discussions. Thanks Mac

I just did mine. Cleaning the underside of the strakes without being waterboarded was a skill learned.

6. Shark hide
Do not deviate from this procedure above and you will end up with a superb result. It will take you an afternoon or two but it will be worth it when u are done

Ok so the sharkhide is a polish, do you use an orbital polisher? Thanks for all the help guys.

Sharkhide is a coating to keep logs from staining. Apply after logs are clean

Re: Newbie wants to clean logs on toon.
Well I had thought that also, but searched yesterday online and found sharkhide polish and wanted to be sure. Also do you know if the toon brite will turn the aluminum white and can it hurt the toons? I have read a lot of info that says any acid can cause pits and they grow. I would rather have an ugly toon than a sunken toon. Thanks

Here's a link to the thread with pics of my log cleaning.

I use Napa Aluminum Brightener and yes it does turn the logs white. Last year I just used the Napa stuff and left the logs white (still better than they started out). I didn't want to go to the hassle of polishing the logs. But this year, I went the extra step and polished the logs after the Napa stuff and wow, what a difference. Hopefully this first time was my hardest -- I'm hoping each year from now on won't take as long to polish them. But after seeing how shiny I can make our 2003 logs, I'm willing to put the extra work into the project.

Thanks Steve, the more I read the more I am realizing that I will need to polish the logs if I want them to look good. I guess I am looking for the miracle cure that you spray on and rinse off then go to the lake. Yeah right!!

Re: Newbie wants to clean logs on toon.
No reason to attempt to use Sharkhide unless they're polished.
I see where Harbor Freight's selling a dual action polisher/sander cheap this month. Go to the auto paint store and buy a wool bonnet, and you're in the aluminum polishing business. Then go to Advance and get yourself some White Diamond metal polish.
Polishing the outsides of my toons, three nose cones and the tails of my toons just takes over an hour. It's just not that hard of work.
Now getting all the black aluminum oxide off the toons good enough to use Sharkhide is a back breaking experience. I've never got'em clean enough to Sharkhide. I just polish my boat the first of June every year.
