what prop!

#1 Post by ron nh » Mon Mar 16, 2015 1:06 pm

what prop do you think I'll want for 2015 mercury 115 command thrust. I don't know anything about props, I've always ran with what was on there. also I've never bought a new boat. I assume it will come with black max. I'd like to buy it ahead of time so I can use stock prop as back up, but should I wait? mercury says the command thrust will spin same enertia prop as 150hp. my goal is better performance with 1,000lbs of human rather than top speed with just me, of course I'd prefer both. also what will I pay for this. you can tell I can't wait for boat as I can't stop posting. sorry, like a kid at christmas.

You really don't want or need to purchase a prop ahead of time. Engines are sold propless and it's the dealers responsibility to select and install the right prop for your application. Now if you're wanting SS you may haft to pay the upgrade difference in price. If you feel they installed a prop that fails to perform like it should don't run it excessively, you want them to exchange it out for a higher or lower pitched one that allows the engine to perform as designed. Then when it's dialed in you can purchase a duplicate prop for a spare.

Plus 1... Let the dealer tackle the propping as part of the sale. To get it all right, you have to take in a lot of different factors besides just the prop. He may need to adjust the height and re-prop a few times before its close. Clue him in that propping goes with the sale!
