interseting little project...

We went to a light display at the Missouri Botanical Gardens over the Christmas season. One area that really struck me as beautiful was a large tree with about 20-25 lanterns hanging in the branches. I thought that would be a neat thing for the lake lot. I found the exact lanterns they used, but at $25 a piece they were out of the question. Plus they run on batteries, and that would be a PITA. Obviously, solar is the way to go.
I had the idea to use mason jars instead of lanterns, and to use cheap solar walkway lights. I think the finished product look pretty cool.
Making them is super easy. I made 10 in about an hour. Best of all, they only cost about $3.50 a piece
You can see the step-by-step on my blog:

I'll make simple twine hangers to hang them in the trees. I'll post up more pictures when I get them hung up at our lot.

Cool project. Would love to see the pic after you get all of them installed. I'm thinking we might have to make some of these to go at our lake place as well.
Thanks for posting!

I'm more concerned about his lot being placed on his boat!

Great idea. Just have to see if we can free up any mason jars. Have several in the fridge right now, but they're holding the good stuff from the homelands.

By "good stuff", you mean perhaps a corn-based beverage product? If so, send them to me, and I will return the clean and empty jars back to you postage paid.

I'm sure there's a federal crime there somewhere. Hell -- it's probably a federal crime for me to just get the homeade stuff in WV and drive it across state lines to where I live now.

Well, in many lakes, the boat cops will ticket you for glass, and impound it. Maybe consider canned beer? I know, I know...
That's why I sell Boating Booze Bottles.
