1979 Johnson 25hp dropped a cyl,,,

It will hit on it every once in awhile but for the most part it's dead. Put new plugs in it,,,nuttin, still only runs on one cyl,,,, any motabote mechanecks here???

Two things.... Have you tried to see if it is firing steady by grounding the plug and have you pulled a compression test?

not real familiar with this motor, but if you have 2 coils swap coil to see if problem moves with coil. if it moves replace bad coil

just a finger in the hole for compression. Felt pretty darn good
no spark when I pull the plug and hold it against the block

it does have two,,,, I will look into swaping them,,,,, thanks

I agree. A coil would give that symptom of firing only when it feels like it (has the correct conditions to do so). I'd do what was suggested, and swap coils to see if the problem switched to the other cylinder.
