So I finally lost my mind and dumped $300 bucks on a mirror! I can't believe they are this expensive but it is a great looking mirror that will allow me to keep my face forward when pulling a tube...

Anyone on here have one? If so please tell me how great they are...if not .....please lie to me and tell me they are great and worth the 300 clams I dished out...thanks in advance!

At one of the boat shows I attended in January, every JC pontoon on display had a PTM Edge on it. I called the manufacturer last year and asked why they were so pricey. He responded that each mirror support is machined from a sold piece of aluminum, not forged.

I couldn't swing that price for a mirror so I added the much less expensive CIPA 1877 pontoon mirror. It works great and is easily folded out of the way but doesn't have the sexy look of the PTM. Plus, it left me with the $200 difference in my pocket.

You should really enjoy it. If it weren't for the price, I'd have one on my toon.

Hate to do this to you, but you could have bought it for $233 on Amazon.com with free freight.

The model 100 Pro that snowman bought is about $60+ higher than the standard model 100. The Pro has a much larger mirror.

I've got that mirror on my boat. It rocks. Makes me wish I'd had it for the last 7 yrs on my previous boat!

I bought one of the original PTM Edge pontoon mirrors a few years ago and LOVE it, last year I asked PTM Edge if I could buy the new upgraded pro mirror only. With great surprise, PTM Edge customer service said mail in your entire mirror and bracket and we will send you the new pro version mirror and bracket just pay $60 so I did that and now for under $200 we have the new PTM Edge Mirror. We tube and ski with our boat, the pro mirror is super sharp.

Now, it's just me, but I would never have a rear view mirror on a boat.

We're used to them on our cars, since everyone travels in a relatively straight line, in well defined lanes, with vehicles in a nice one-behind-the-other fashion.

But on our boats, there are no defined lanes, people drive in any direction they want, and there's no rhyme or reason in the directions that boats travel.

I would rather keep my head on a swivel, constantly looking right, left and astern, in addition to straight ahead. I feel that if there were a mirror resent, people would tend to concentrate on the 30 degrees view ahead and 30 degrees directly astern in a "tunnel vision" manner, and forget about the other 300 degrees of the compass not covered by forward vision and the mirror.

Don't get me wrong, I would never advise someone that they shouldn't have a rear view mirror on their boat, but just want to make sure that everyone also pays attention to the left, right and both rear quarters, and not be complacent due to the mirror.

As far as skiers, that's why observers are required in nearly all states. So the driver can concentrate on driving and not be distracted by the skier.
