Adjusting tongue weight

I think my toon needs just a bit more tongue pressure. I'm getting just enough sway when pulling down the road to make an adjustment. The question is just how much adjustment.

I was thinking I'd knock the winch post forward an inch or three to start. If I was still working I'd have access to freight scales so I could get it exactly right, but I don't.

So my question is to those who have done this. Any thoughts on how far of an adjustment to guess for?

My boat is in it's slip until I decide the toons are lake-nasty enough for a pressure washing and bring it home. We're talking a 15 minute drive from home to slip, quick wash, then back again.

On my trailer the assembly that holds the axles can be loosened and moved forward or back. Moving the winch post forward can change how sharp an angle you can turn before the toon hits the truck...nice to keep the toon 4 ft back from the ball.

For scales, go to a Truck Stop or Scrap Yard.

Around here, we have Co-Ops. I'm able to use their scales at no charge.

Three inch adjustment shouldn't make or break you in my mind. I would say try it(mark it first). Then if it works, there you are! if not move the axles back. Be very care full with the measurements if you move the axels back.
