Need help! Mercury outboard coil questions

Ok, I was spring tuning the pontoon boat over the weekend. Changed the plugs that look like they had a .090 gap. I do not think the guy ever changed them before me. Plugs burned evenly. Fired the engine up and had a miss to it. I norrowed it down to #3 cylinder. Engine ran great all year until the end of the season and acted as if it had a miss. So here I am looking at it now. I know it is the coil. Swap coils and the miss follows. Here in is the question.

I am being told that I must swap all coils out for the new ones. Do I really need to spend $600 for all new coils? Here is what I have:

2006 Mecury 60Hp EFI 4-Stroke Bigfoot 4Cyl Outboard
Serial#: 1C014899
Coil number: 879984, superceeded by 8M0077471

There is a service bulletin out on it. But I am wondering if there is any actual harm in replacing just the burned out coil pack. Thanks!

It reads as if Mercury has had more than it's share if issues with coil packs for your engine. Yes there is a service bulletin on them and under it there was a real chance you could have had them all replaced for free. This technically expired 2/15 but who knows maybe they would still extend some help in some shape or form. Service Bulletin

Thanks Bamby,

On your note, I just got off the phone with Mercury tech support. While they would not extend the warranty to cover a 9 year old boat he did confirm that there was nothing wrong with replacing one coil pack. Or some call them ECM. He verified the correct part number and it is: 8M0077471 that replaced the: 879984

He said that the reason they replaced all of them was due to a bad batch of them that was ran and it was easier to replace them all and have a happy customer. Better than replacing one then something happen and the customer having to come back for the same issue. Still beats $600 :nana
