We have a 2005 JC Suntoon 23TT with a Honda 150hp. We took it out for the first time last weekend. It supposedly has a 20 gallon fuel tank, and we've determined that the fuel gauge isn't particularly accurate. There is fuel at our marina where we keep the boat up here in Indiana, so all is well here. However, we winter on Lake Okeechobee in Florida. We will be keeping the boat at a friend's house in the canal. The nearest marina fuel is nearly 30 miles away. So, we're thinking we need to do something different with the fuel tank.

The existing fuel tank is in the aft port side. There is a storage area in the rear that runs almost the length of the boat, and the fuel tank sits behind the storage area (open to the storage area). So, there's room to replace the existing fuel tank with a larger one or to install a second fuel tank. The existing one is a poly one. What would you recommend? We'd like to get it done before we go to Florida in September. Does anyone know of a place in or near Indianapolis that could do the work? It looks like there are many different shapes and sizes of tanks.

On my old pontoon with 115 hp Yamaha, I used a red plastic portable 12 gallon tank and a 6 gallon steel Yamaha tank. I also had another 12 gallon Moeller plastic tank if I was going very far.

But with 150 hp, you likely will be putting more miles on your boat and you need a larger tank.

West Marine carries a full line of permanent mount heavy plastic fuel tanks. They're easily strapped down and hooked up to a fuel filler (with 2 clamps and radiator hoses) and a thru the fencing air vent.

My pontoon with a 150hp came with a built in 50 gal. tank. I would get something in the 40-50 gal in a poly if you can, its always nice to fill up and be able to go for a long time.

The hard part is finding one that lines up with your fill line

If you have the room I would recommend two tanks. I never want all my eggs in one basket.

I'm surprised a newer toon rated for a 150hp only came with a 20 gallon tank, I installed a 24 gallon during my restoration and wished I had gone bigger, its just enough to completely lap one of the lakes I frequent. I ALWAYS carry a small spare 3 gallon tank just encase I get some bad go juice. I'm looking at going 40-50 gallons with I build a new chassis next year, hopefully in the center tube.

I only have a 115, but I'm seriously looking at how to fit the Moeller 52 gallon tank in my center toon.

Ive got a triple toon with a 200hp outboard and only have a 30gal factory tank in the center tube. I was hoping for 40-50gal setup but had to deal with what came with it. Honestly i dont seem to burn much fuel so 30gal is sufficient.

I sure like my 50 gallon tank. I've not bought marina gas yet. I keep an eye peeled for a service station with ethanol free gas.

Whatever you install, make sure the weight is properly balanced for the extra gas.
