Squirrely tach

My tach seems to indicate okay up to about 1,000 RPM and then wiggles and drops to zero. Reducing the engine to idle does not get it working again. I pulled out the instrument panel and visually checked the connections which were very clean and tight; same thing with the connections at the engine. I am thinking of buying another tach and putting it in to see if that will fix it. Of course, when I pulled the panel out the battery gauge stopped working. So I will trouble shoot that next time I am at the boat. Any thoughts on the tach?

If I do get another one, am I correct in thinking it would be a 12 pole tach for my 1992 60 HP TLENE?

Thanks!

Chris

Wish I could help but that's not my area of expertise. However it does seem like you have a bad tach or connection somewhere.

Rotate the pluse switch back and forth a few times , that cleans the contacts then put it back in the original position , that often fixes it
