I have a Humminbird 586c fishfinder which cuts out after we leave our dock and doesn't turn back on it was suggested to me that it was probably was the circuit board that was gone on it and sending back to Himminbird for repairs is not worth it. So my question is can I buy another Humminbird in the 500 series and use the same wiring of my 586c

When you say cut out, do you mean it loses power? If so then yes it is something with the unit or wiring. If it loses readings, it is your transducer.
Also, if you replace it you need to find out if your old transducer will work with the new unit. Many newer units have better transducers that give it better readings and readouts, 3D, etc. If so, you need to purchase the new transducer and run the cable new. Not sure about the wiring, I don't see why not.

If you are going to upgrade the unit, you might as well upgrade the transducer. It is a fairly simple job so long as you don't have underskinning. It also makes things easier if you get the same model because then you can use the same mounting bracket for the transducer.
