Looking at new pontoons - some with vinyl and some with carpet flooring. Question: Are the vinyl floors hot on the bare feet? Any other points to make re: either flooring would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

They both have their pros and cons. Seems as if those that have vinyl really like it.
My Bennington came with carpet up front and vinyl on the aft deck. I too swing toward vinyl.

I've found that the vinyl stays much cooler than I thought it would. also i've already had to clean some nasty burnt on stuff off it and it came right up.

If the vinyl gets hot, splash it down with some water.
If the vinyl gets dirt/mud/fish guts/stink bait on it, splash it down with some water.
If it's stubborn, ie: fish guts/ stink bait? Use some simple green, then wash down.
All in all, I like vinyl over carpet.
And for grilling, I got a "Grill Mat Carpet" at Home Depot. It works pretty good.

My Bennington came with the vinyl. I like that concept better. Every boat I've seen with carpet has a bad mildew problem. Can get ugly fast.

I have full vinyl in our boat and love it !!! It does get hot on the feet, but we have a 10 ft bimini top, so almost half the boat is in the shade anyways. As stated above, any splash of water cools it right down.
We had carpet in our last boat ( Sea Ray) and I will NOT have carpet again. Love this stuff

Vinyl... that's whats on our boat and it's sooooo much easier to clean.... I just take my boat to a local car wash and use a power washer on it 2 or 3 times per season....

Carpet in first toon.
Snap out carpet with vinyl underneath on second toon ($1500 option and carpet came out after 2 weeks).
Vinyl only on third toon.
Never will I have carpet again.

Mine has carpet, next one I will try vinyl, I fish alot from mine and it sure is a pain trying to get a fish hook out of the carpet, I use a leaf blower to clean out sand.

I have the best of both worlds. I have a full vinyl floor with snap-in Seagrass carpeting. When I clean I unsnap the carpet, through it in the water to rinse it off and hang it over the side while I take a bucket and throw water from the bow to the stern. I have some boat wash and an old snow brush for stubborn stains.
The seagrass carpet is nice and soft for walking on rather than just having the vinyl all the time. It does still get hot though. That's what the bimini is for.
This is the only picture I could find of the carpet. Pay no attention to the cute little kid in the picture.

I have Vinyl and i love it also
to look for though is where the plywood seems together. i can see it in my floor!! so just look out for it if you buying one. if you see it poiint it out to the dealer!! i found this out after. my floor is a tan color not teak look alike.
they well tell you its normal but its not!!! i have a thread on here because of it. and myself and the manufacture are still working though it.
if you rlooking at a new boat. make sure they clean it before you pick it up. nothing more disapointing then picking up a 25-30g boat that is dirty.
other then that Vinyl is the cats meow! love love love it!

Our carpet is 8 years old and a very light color. It looks new still and I think I've only cleaned it twice. Wow, that sounds awful, but it just does not get dirty. Of course, we rarely wear shoes on it, and we really don't get on it from the shore to track mud in. Ours is not set up for fishing, either, so there goes that worry.
I do love how cool the carpet stays, even in the AZ sun, and even when the sun is at an angle to hit it under the bimini tops. I guess what I'm saying is that I have been very happy with our carpet. Of course, after reading this thread, I think I'll go light that inferior substance on fire.

Agreed..... NOT normal to see the seams. You can't find any of the seams on our floor. Waiting to hear how your story plays out.....
