Mercury motor manual and throttle

#1 Post by OkieToon » Tue Jul 14, 2015 3:27 pm

Just got my first boat and have plans for a total overhaul... Eventually. It's a 1988 24' party barge with a 1998 mercury Bigfoot 60 motor. I'd like to find a manual on the motor so I can familiarize myself with it. Anyone know anywhere to download or order one of these? It also has a 2 stick Morse throttle which I'd like to switch to a single stick. Is this easily done. Thanks for any help!

I bought a repair manual for my Honda online. A Merc dealer should be able to round a owners manual for you.

See a Dealer about the binnacle mount throttle and cables for it as well. Shouldn't be too hard. I have replaced cables before so attaching them to a new throttle shouldn't be that difficult. I bet youtube has a video for that. I swear you can learn brain surgery there.

I too have a two lever binnacle and was going to swap it to a single lever then decided just to repower from the Merc to a Yamaha :lol3 .

However, when searching for the Merc's single binnacle, ebay has/had several for sale. That's where I'd suggest you look. It'll be cheaper than dealer's cost. Best of luck.

I wouldn't buy the one from Amazon since that is a Clymer. You should be able to find the real Mercury manual.

If you want to see if there is one online, go here:

I bought this control for my boat.

It is a Gen II so requires Gen II cables. Works way better than Gen I controls(I replaced my Gen I)) which I would stay away from.
