Underskinning a Fishing Barge 20'

Finished under skinning my Fishing barge and whoa!! what a difference it made. While I finished earlier in the week, yesterday was the first test and it was a perfect day for testing. It was a very windy day at Ross Barnett Reservoir which means decent white capping waves. A little backstory- a couple of weekends ago we ventured out on a rough windy day. As long as we stayed in the smaller bay the water was very tolerable, but once we crossed into the larger lake it got rough. Not to far in I decided to turn around and go back to the bay where I felt a little safer. Yesterday's conditions were a replay of that weekend. Hesitant at first, we eased away from the dock crept out into the churning, open water. Soon as we were clear of the wake zone, I started opening up a little and to my surprise it was actually a pretty smooth ride. The slamming and surging of the boat were gone. I didn't notice much of a mph gain (with a 60 horse fourstroke i'm not expecting to break the sound barrier) but the ride was night and day different. By trade I am a metal fabricator so it was pretty easy to get my hands on some 24g equivalent sheets of aluminum. I fabricated all the mounting angles and cuts at my shop which made installation pretty easy. Also included a picture of another project I finished back during the first week I had the boat, an external battery plug for charging.

Looks great ! Glad to hear it made it smoother . ..I had the same experience as you...surging and water buffering with water coming up thru the deck..one of the things on my list :o

Very nice work. On the Rebuild Restoration forum of this site is a post titled "UNDERPINNING OR UNDERSKINNING". ToonGuy posted the following link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2WYtzQ37YM. Well worth watching. It will validate your wisdom of underskining your toon.
