Filling gas tank problems

Hello!

I'm attempting to fill my boat on the trailer using 5-gallon gas cans and one of those shaker siphons. I can get the siphon going no problem, but after a few seconds, gas will start coming out of the fill spout as I am filling it. I made sure that the siphon hose was inserted all the way. I tried again, and got the same result.

I looked inside the fill spout (on the side of my boat) and I can see some sort of metal tip with a hole in it sticking across the inside of the fill tube -- about 3 inches in. I think that the gas is hitting that as I am filling and it is running back out slowly. I can fill the tank with a funnel and pouring rreeaallyy slowly but that is a pain.

What is the best way to do this??

Thank you!

Sorry, I don't have any answer for you. Just bumping back to the top. I use a Wonder Pump shaker hose every single weekend and have no problems with it.

No idea what that might be -- doesn't seem useful because using a jiggle hose or filling from a fuel pump, would cause gas to splash back out. I know my fill spout doesn't have anything like that since I just pulled the tank out last weekend to completely empty it and check the tube that pulls gas out to the fuel line to the motor. I was looking down in that fill spout with nothing blocking the view.

Hopefully somebody might have a suggestion for you.

Is your vent a part of fill tube? If so you might be closing it off causing fuel to back up

It is. My 'toon has an "Enviro-Fill" gas tank and the way the venting is designed is awful. I contacted Avalon about the issue and the company that makes the gas tank makes a manual fill aid aka a special funnel that they are sending me for free. The funnel supposedly sits in the fill tube just right to prevent the back spray I am getting. I hope this will fix the issue.

I'm glad the company is sending you the funnel. Since they know there is a problem, it seems to me that they would provide the funnel with each new boat to prevent this problem.

They're not doing you any favor...as mentioned, they should have provided that when you bought your Toon :nono .

Glad all is good :thumbsup .
