Transom Drain Plug

My Party Hut’s transom has a drain hole that’s designed w/o use of a plug thus fills with water when cruising. Is there a reason why it designed w/o a plug?
I’m thinking of modifying it by mig welding a piece of aluminum plate so that I can place a plug then drained when placed on a trailer.
Or is the water needed for ballast or what?

im not an engineer.....
but, I'm thinking everyone's transom has some type of drain....
the transom's function on a 2 log pontoon is to support weight of boat, and i'd imagine hard to make it "water tight"...... so, the water has to have a place to go... I'm thinking, if you cap that drain, you'll create a problem.

Personally if I were to do anything to it I would make it bigger. So as to let the water that collects in there drain faster when getting underway.
Unless it is sealed up top water is going to get in...............

Mine has a cutout about 2" all the way across bottom.

Mine was the same as yours and I actually chase to enlarge it. I bet I actually hosed out a gallon of putrid stinking mud out of mine when I pulled her recently. And I'm real sure I wouldn't want it filled with stale stinking rotten water during the boating season either.

Maybe with this...

.
BTW my question was answered. I'll leave well enough alone and not plug the drain hole

.
