Fuel flow issues

so I changed to a bigger engine on my pontoon. I went from a 1999 Mercury 115 2 stroke to a 2000 Suzuki DT140. We took it out for a test run and after running it for about 15 minutes at wide open throttle until it began to starve for fuel and died. The primer bulb had sucked flat. After messing with it we were able to get enough fuel flowing to lp it back but kept having the same problem. I think the blockage was at the quick connect on the fuel line. Anyone else had this problem?

Did you make sure the vent on the tank cap was open?

Sounds like there is an obstruction or restriction at or before the primer bulb itself. Did you check the main suction line in the tank? Many have a sintered bronze inlet strainer on the end of the suction hose itself, likely find if full of rust and debris... We used the exact same fuel system from a 60's era 55 Evinrude on an 80's era 140 Johnson with no issues... Also do you really need the primer bulb? My 2014 60 Merc had a primer bulb but my 2015 75 Merc has nothing as the dealer removed it....

Also for a cheap as fuel line is just replace it all as many had liner failure due to corn squeezins in the gas.....

My Bobcat had the same thing happening during Snowmagedin and it turned out to be trash in the fuel that could not make it around the corner in the elbow on the top of the tank. I wish I had replaced it with a straight fuel line but I flushed the tank and haven't had a problem since.
