picked up my new manitou yesterday ,49 mph @6200 rpm's

#1 Post by BIGFOOT63 » Sat Jun 04, 2016 4:52 am

it has a 250 ho etech gen 1 motor,,seems the rpm.s are hi 3 people runs 49 with full fuel load ,,by myself it is still 49 mph ,,must against the rev limiter,,it has a 17 x 14.75 stainless prop on it ,going out with 6 people on it today ,,
first impressions of my oasis is nicely built boat storage under the seats not to good compared to my old 2004 crest ,
seats are nice ,,love the way it turns it has the shp hull,
I ordered it with graphite colored motor , went to pick it up it had a white one on it , I am a little bummed about that dealer made a mistake ,,the seats are not as comfy as my old crest but when I was looking I couldn't find any that where

any advise on a prop to try 2016 Manitou oasis #23 which is 24' it has a 14.75 dia x 17 pitch on it now what are bigger diameter and pitch going to do as far as rpm drop and mph?
thanks

How about you simply back off the throttle just a wee bit? What does the manf call WOT RPM ??? Likely 6K right? It will not hurt your motor to see 6,200 here and there... 49 MPH is quite fast and I can't see the need for any more than that and still enjoying one's self without goggles on...

Another SS prop will set you back at least 400 to 700 dollars so I'd think perhaps at best adding some extra cup to what you now have. It will add extra bite and make slow speed steerage more positive and perhaps pull your RPM down a tad...

As to the dealer getting you the wrong color motor... If I had paperwork that clearly requested for a different color then it would be on the dealer to get you the color motor you asked for...

Bigger diameter is hard to comment on as I have no idea how big a prop your motor can actually fit under the anti-cav plate but as you increase pitch you should lose roughly 200 RPM per inch of pitch...

Absolute top speed's not everything when propping a motor. With your high performance hull, tight turns without prop ventilation is very important attribute of a propeller.

At 49 mph, you're already pushing the upper performance level of any pontoon/tritoon. And it's great that you're obtaining the redline on the engine.

Sometimes you've just got to accept that tritoon boats are displacement hulls that with strakes are being fooled into acting like a hulled displacement hulled boat. And your boat's already quite a performer.

Just think what the boat would do with the G2 ETEC motor?

I monitor the BBCBoards.net (bass fishermen) website, and the owners of the G2's are very pleased with their motors. It sounds like their mid range torque is absolutely incredible. Still, most go with the 250 hp Pro XS Mercurys due to their low cost and availability from the manufacturers.

I just ran your numbers and your coming in at 9% slip with a Viper! That's really good! Your prop is hooking up great. I think the 15 3/8X 18 Rebel will get you there. But, WOW... 9% slip? That's about as good as you can get!
As far as the motor color, the Charcoal Etec (and my new Yamaha and old Verado) Really show the water spots... I give them a good vinegar bath to clean them all the time. The white doesn't show them half as bad as the darker colors do. I would stay with the white just for that reason. I think it looks great, kinda breaks up the colors and makes that Evilrude stand out! :thumbsup ... I like it!!!
