What do you recommend for a GPS that will allow me to quickly mark stumps, fishing locations, and etc... Don't really need a fish finder.

Any GPS that can take the Navionics micro SD card
I find that they are the best maps.

I second this. Have a tablet mount and a 7 inch tablet on the boat. You can download the maps and run offline. You can get a 7 or 10 inch tabet, the app and a grip go mount for less than 100 bucks if you don't want to dedicate your phone to the task. We will be adding a raymarine wifish box this fall that split screens and a 10 inch table . Basically I'll have less than 300 in a fairly good sonar, good gps and 10 inch touch screen controls. Can't beat it.

X2 on the Navionics app. Use it with the Vexillar SonarPhone WiFi product. I have a split screen of Navionics and SonarPhone at the same time, on multiple devices.

Why not a fish finder? If your in area with stumps I'd be more worried about stuff you can't see! I picked up a used Humminbird Side Imaging unit for 300$ and I'm amazed what the side scan will show under the water and help you "see" submerged objects that you can mark up to 100' off either side of the boat. I've seen used color GPS/finder units for 150$ with Navionics card included.

Never really thought about a fish finder for that reason. I will have to look into it. Thanks!

A topographical map isn't going to show you a stump. A fish-finder is going to show you whats underwater and the depths. With a $1000 HD GPS (MSRP) with side-scan you can see a ton of stuff under the water. You'd be fine with a $300-$500 GPS (MSRP) if you need just basic functions.

Another hint, it you decide to go used take a look at bbcboards.net as those Bass Boat guys go through electronic upgrades quite often and sell off there used stuff at great prices.
