Hello Everyone!

I just purchased my first pontoon. I love the boat however I do not like the trailer! The trailer is a 1983 Haul Rite and appears to be similar to a center lift. The trailer appears that the length can be adjusted. Please see attachment.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of trailer? Suggestions or tips on loading and unloading. Is it better to load and unload in deeper water?

I don't plan on having the trailer for an extended amount of time but will have to do for now. I don't feel comfortable haul the boat a long distance due to the design of the trailer.

Any tie down suggestions beside the one strap on the bow of the boat?

That's the old style center lift scissors trailer. They're now relatively rare for those that have to trailer any distance as they're not too stable laterally. Just don't go around a turn fast or drive very aggressively with it.

What they're good for is a boat dealership or repair facility as they can lay a pontoon boat down on the ground easily and pick them up too.

When I'm trailering locally, I just make sure the nose is tied down solid--in addition to my winch hook being cranked down tight. But if I was going to go a long distance, I'd be strapping down the rear end to the trailer.

That's called a scissor style or center lift trailer. Don't know that the length can be adjusted. But it can lower your pontoon to the ground and pick it up from the ground. Very handy for that task, but I hate those style trailers otherwise. The "between the toons" style of trailers are tippy going around corners. Two years ago, I sold mine and bought a new "bunk style" trailer (the kind where the toons rest on top of V-bunks). Much happier with that.

They work just fine my boat guy takes in close to 400 pontoons a year for storage and back to lake in spring you just cant`t drive 75 mph
