Hi guys....

I have another question regarding my 1999 50HP Mercury Bigfoot outboard.

Today I was under the cowling doing some maintenance and found a hose that is only attached on one end. This hose goes up to the flywheel cover and hooks on to what appears to be a vent hole.

The bottom of the hose is not hooked to anything which doesn't appear to be right.
I've looked around to see if I could figure out where it should hook up but I don't see anything that looks as if it's waiting for a hose to hook to it.

I've attached a link to a breakdown that shows the hose. It is part number three in the exploded diagram.
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm more familiar with the Johnnyrudes and Mercruisers... So this is just a guess- but based on the shape of the cover, could it be just a drain hose so water doesn't collect in the top there?

First of all, thanks for the reply. I'm honestly wondering if you might be right since I cannot find any place where the bottom of this hose should attach. My problem is that the Mercury websites refer to it as a vent hose so I'm thinking it must be venting something. I don't know.....

I'm going to try attaching an image of the hose I'm referring to. Maybe someone that has a late 90's or early 2000's outboard can take a look at theirs and give me some direction.

Oh and also...

It doesn't have to be a late 90's outboard. I've done a little looking online and it seems that even the newer Mercury Outboards, (up to 150 HP), have this hose. Again, hopefully someone can take a look at theirs and tell me what this hose is supposed to do.
