Hey guys. Quick question. I was out today, and I was moving at full speed (24 mph) when the water bottom suddenly came up on me. Literally from 40 feet to less than 10 feet in no time. I downshifted quickly to neutral but maybe a little to quickly into reverse. The motor dies (stalled?). I shifted back to neutral and it started right up. Is this a fail safe on the motor to prevent damage?

If you had too much forward motion when you shifted to reverse the water movement across your prop tries to turn the motor the opposite direction and can cause a stall...

Any risk of damaging anything when this happens?

It's a Yamaha. Strongest dog clutches in the industry. I wouldn't make it a habit on any outboard though.
