Hey guys, got a problem I want to run by you. My wife and I got the boat out today and took it for a nice long run without the kiddo with us. Let me tell you, it was HOT today. Temp got up to 105 with a heat index of 115! Towards the latter half of our day, when the temp really started climbing, I noticed a squeal coming from the motor. It sounded like a belt slipping, but after looking at the belt, I figured that didn't seem like the culprit. I didn't notice this noise at idle rpms. It was only noticeable when I gave it a little gas and bumped it to 1500 - 2000 rpms. Didn't hear it when I opened her up. Any thoughts? I've never noticed this before and am hoping it had something to do with the high temps.

Lots of them have belts on the top of the engine.

Last I knew, the Yamaha's overhead cams were belt driven.

My Yamaha 60 has been doing it too ever since I changed the prop. At idle it's fine. Bump the throttle a bit I get a squeal. Bump it up a little more and it goes away. Seems like it's coming from the lower unit.

I've been reading up on this problem and it seems like it may be the drive shaft bushing needing to be greased. Weird though because I thought Yamaha fixed this problem several years ago.

Ditto on the bushing lube. Read about that on a thread some time ago, but can't remember how it was posted. It all revolved around making sure lube was on the driveshaft when reinstalling the lower unit after service ie, pump replacement. From what I remember, it called for a "special" Yamaha lube for just that purpose. Was mainly an issue on 90 hp four strokes.
I hope this may help in some small way, a Yamaha service manual would be a great start. Simyamaha maybe a place to ask that exact question.
Good Luck!!

My 2013 150 Yamaha does it too. If you shoot some silicone lube in there the noise will go away, its happened a handful of times in mines 300 hours.
