Evinrude 115 changing gears
Evinrude 115 2012 changes gears. When the boat is at full throttle, it runs about 17 mph. After about 5 minutes of running, it sounds like it switches to a higher gear and we gain about 2 mph to 19 mph. What might cause this? I have changes the spark plugs and the fuel filter with no change.
Re: Evinrude 115 changing gears
Knowing RPM would help immensely.

Re: Evinrude 115 changing gears
At the 17 mph, RPMs between 40 and 50. About 45. Kicks up to 19mph, RPMs got to about 52
Re: Evinrude 115 changing gears
my first guess would be fuel flow...
Maybe primer bulb problem or fuel line problem.
Or maybe linkage issue at the motor

I am the guy at the boat ramp that gives you dirty looks when you are a complete idiot and too stupid to know it.
Re: Evinrude 115 changing gears
If I am understanding you:
Wide-open throttle is around 4500 RPM at first, and that gives you 17 MPH.
Then the RPM suddenly jumps to 5200 RPM which results in 19 MPH.
Most outboards should run at around 5600-6000 RPM wide open.
What is the maximum RPM rating for your model?
Have you ever seen higher than 5200 RPM?
What is the result of adjusting the trim up and down while running wide open?
