2008 Suntracker Fuel Level Sending Unit not working. Can I please get a troubleshooting procedure?

The Fuel level needle is now buried to the empty side, and it has been flaky for a year or two now. Just need the troubleshooting procedure to determine if the sending unit can be fixed, or needs to be replaced.
