I finally rode on a deckboat!

#1 Post by mike » Fri May 18, 2007 8:55 am

So my buddy bought a Polar Kraft aluminum deckboat recently with a 150 yamaha four stroke and we went out last weekend for a day on the lake...

I can now understand why people buy pontoon boats and why people buy deckboats!

The main thing I liked about the boat was it was faster and cornered better than a pontoon, it also created a bigger wake which is nice for wakeboarding!

The downside of the boat was very obvious to me... While it was a big boat, the deck was much more cramped and had far less open room to move about. It didnt have any gates that opened to board with (which makes a huge difference when the boat is pulled up onto the beach! It rocked side to side quite a bit and didnt cut thru chop like a pontoon, it did the typical v-bottom slam when going over wake sets... I also had a hard time seeing ahead as the bow went way up on quick starts!

Overall, I think if you are going to buy a boat for watersports a deckboat may be a better option but you are going to pay the price in comfort and space!

I personally would rather have less performance and be comfortable!

Keep on tooning!

Good post Mike -- Before I bought my pontoon I looked at
deckboats thinking that was the way to go but after
riding on a toon for a day there was no looking back.
I bought the toon and have never been happier.
My only regret was not buying one years ago.
