Are we nuts?

#1 Post by Looney Tune » Mon Nov 08, 2010 3:06 pm

My partner and I have on order a 2011 Premier Castaway 251. 25 footer. 250 hp Mercury Verado. PTX. Upgraded fishing meter. Porta potty. Snap out carpets. Double Bimini. Wash down. Sink. Raised helm. Vinyl floor. Etc. When we are done it is going to replace my old Ranger Bass boat. It's going to be a Ranger on toons. BUT--we are into this for over 60k.
Are we nuts? I have been on this website for two days and have not seen a price even close to that.

all honesty I think if you have the cash to buy it and plan on using it for many years and get lots of family enjoyment out of it then it is a great investment, there is nothing better than good family time and family time is worth way more than 60k

Nope, you're not nuts. That Verado hanging on the back is a monster part of the price. With all that good stuff on there why not go for the porcelain pump out head? You're coming out a bit higher than our Escapade, but you have a bigger motor, the 36 PTX versus our 30", vinyl flooring that all add cost. Does your pricing include a trailer?

When I was doing some price comparisons when it came down to getting as close to apples to apples comparisons pricing is all pretty close. You go for what you have in local dealers, preferred boat for comfort and function, etc.

Pictures are a must when you get her!

I am not far behind that price with the rig in my sig. I Swapped my engine over from my 07 and kept the trailer but if I bought it all brand new it would have rang in at 50K+.

For that size boat and motor combo you are right on the price. The Verado is about 40% of the price. The options add up quickly. Our Escapade with a 225 Verado was in that price range as well.

no, not nuts at all. it's important that someone keeps buying new boats
so that the rest of us can get great deals on used boats, after the new
one loses 35% the day it's delivered.

i am sure you will love it. is your "partner" your spouse/signif. other,
or is it like a friend/neighbor? i would never do a partnership on a
boat. on an aircraft, maybe, because of the extreme costs.
but not on a boat.

original question.

I ended up at about 47K list. Shopped around and got down to 40K.

The boats can be expensive but with proper care they last forever and will provide many years of enjoyment. The great thing about a fishing pontoon (vice a ranger etc) is that you can still cruise and ski etc and do all the normal things when you're not fishing. A ranger isn't a very good family/entertaining boat.

Not my spouse. Geeeeeze. I'm trying to have fun here. It's my cousin and he has been fishing with me on my Ranger for over 15 years. He has gone 50/50 with me on every single expense sinse we have been fishing together. I have no worries. We drew up a contract between the two of us that covers everything right up to one of use dying and damages done by one of our family members if they use the boat.

"Geeeeeze"?
you asked, "Are we nuts?" and you only wanted puff replies?
OK... great, the best way ever, proceed!!

I suspect you'll do fine with your cousin.
