A trolling motor for my pontoon

#1 Post by Thechap1 » Fri Jul 16, 2021 1:40 pm

Has anyone put a trolling motor on their pontoon boat? I have a 2013 Sunchaser I'm looking to get one for. There is a ton of them out there.

I'm just looking to see what was bought and how was it attached.

My 25' boat has a large open deck on the bow, outside of the fence. The previous owner mounted a Minn Kota 12v 55 lb. on the bow (center) using the factory slide bracket, so it was quick and easy to deploy and stow. I wouldn't know how to get a clean mount setup without this open deck.

FWIW, the lowly 55 lb thrust did the job great on fairly calm days, but I ended up removing it because the deck space for the grandkids is more important to me than trolling. (I mostly fish for Crappie from my dock)

In speaking with avid fishermen here on the lake, 24v for 80 lbs. of thrust and some form of Spot-Lock/i-pilot are minimum requirements for them.
Big and ugly but we love our 1999/2000 Crest II DL with a Yamaha F115

I rebuilt a 24' pontoon and extended the floor from 20' to be 24', I bought a reman MotorGuide from Bill's boat stuff in Salem, Mo, it was a 55lb thrust 12v and I loved it, even in the wind it worked well. I don't have that boat anymore and this is the only pic I could find of how I mounted it, the mounting plate was a quick disconnect which was nice also. Oh, one thing I loved and will do on my next boat is that trolling motor came with a wireless foot remote, which worked almost anywhere on the boat, for me thats a must, I loved that remote control which you can see in the pic by the front rail.

I have a 24 ft tritoon. 80# 24v Terrova mounted on a quick release puck mount. Works great fishing from the stern using the remote. Mounted at the front gate on the starboard side so it drops between the toons.
