Glad to see I'm not the only one - mine is also on the front of the bimini. I just figured if it's dark enough to need the light, you probably wouldn't need the bimini open. Once I close the bimini, that puts the stern light more to the back of the boat (which is where I thought a stern light was supposed to be).

The worst thing I have discovered with having the stern light on the front of the bimini is the wires that have to run through the bimini frame. I had that wire looped and part of it was sticking out. When I opened up the bimini, the frame rubbed through the protective coating on the wires and allowed the bare wires to touch the frame and short out (see my other thread about High Voltage Issues).

Mine is in one of the seat lockers.

Instead of it flopping around during the day while I'm cruising, I put a 2 prong plug in the wiring so I can unplug it and stow it when it's not needed. Just something else to get hung up or hooked and broken. It takes about a minute to reinstall it and plug it in when I need it.

My anchor light is on the back of my top, but the bulb is burned out. (I hope)... I gotta go replace the bulb or put a new light up. I haven't really paid attention on how it's mounted on the top. Anyone know what kind of light/pole combo I would need if I want to replace?

Mine is on my anchor. Didn't know why I needed a light on my anchor but was told to make sure I had an anchor light. :biggrin2

I got two of these LED anchor lights...

http://www.amazon.com/All-Round-Cam-Loc ... Down+Light

I use the short black one on my front bimini, folded down, as an interior dome light kinda thing, and I use the tall chrome one (the tall one doesn't come in black) on the aft of my rear bimini as the anchor light. The tall length allows for flying a flag.

Each light is independently wired and independently switched. The front one is simply on and off. The rear one is wired to a 3-way switch - "anchor" "off" and "navigation".

The original incandescent lights don't mind how you connect the wires. The LED lights care greatly. Make sure you check the ground/hot supply wires and connect the LED's correctly or you'll be ordering new lights!

I went with LED lights because 1. they consume less energy, and 2. they supposedly last longer than incandescents, and 3. i think they handle vibrations/bumps of towing better than incandescents.

The cam-lock folding feature is awesome when it's time to tow and cover the boat. The original light had a screw that needed to be loosened, then retightened. It stripped in about 3 months of doing this. This cam-lock - simply pull it open, fold to the position you want, and push it closed. Very neat, very quick and easy.
