4 bladed Spitfire prop...

#1 Post by justrfb » Tue Apr 16, 2013 4:24 am

Any person here have experience or an opinion on the Mercury Spitfire 4 bladed prop? I have a new to us, 20' toon with a Merc 4 stroke 75 on the back. When we were out Sunday, it seem to have no issue spinning the 3 bladed 11" pitch prop currently on there. Easily went to "red line" 6K, running about 22-23 MPH. I am thinking about going to the 4 bladed Spitfire with a little more pitch on it. Thanks for your answer.

Sincerely,
Rich

I have two that I run depending on load and if I am not too lazy to swap. Goes against the norm of a 4 blade not being great for pontoons but I was told these were designed with this in mind. I love mine. My stock 3 blade wasnt bad but these are better.

Talk to a qualified prop guy . Most good ones can put you spot on once they know your specs. I use Ricky at Brainerd props. I have purchased numerous props from him for my Alumacraft with a 75 tiller and my ranger with a 250 v-rod. He knows his stuff.
