LOVE winter catfishing!spurhunter wrote:While we wont be swimming pat mid Oct, I fish all winter long. Its the best time to get on the big Catfish, if you have to break ice, its game on that day!
I actually look forward to November--April.
A lot less traffic on the lake also.
I often wonder if Jimmy really did crack corn, and why should I care?
Re: Hate this time of the year
My Marina stops selling gas at the end of October. So I'll pull the boat shortly after that.
I'll take advantage of every good boating day from now till then. Water has been 81-82 degrees (perfect swinming)
Once the water gets too cool for me to swim I'll take my frog togs outfit and continue kayaking until the end of October.
I've got to win a lottery or something so I can move south!

Re: Hate this time of the year
Since the heat wave dropped in early August we have been using our pontoon boat a lot this year. We were out on the Chesapecke bay both days this passed weekend . Very windy on Sunday Had a north easter come by after we got out in deep water 36 ft. We tried to crab but still no luck. I hope we can go out this coming Sunday got a car show Saturday to go to. Usually we head for the Marina for winter storage but this year were pushing it for cooler weather.

Crabbing was slow all season here too..no one is catching many. I hope it was just the unusually high rainfall and not a population crash.Silver Eagle wrote:We tried to crab but still no luck.

with massive layoffs, closeings fuel prices our lake been very very slow this yr not even many at swim area like in the past, we got to take ours a few times only, was talking with a guy that had a mansion on our lake and just bought a new benny with all the bells , i ask him where he was buying fuel and he said a certain marina down the lake because he knew the owner and knew the fuel was clean and would spend several hundred a mnth with all his water toys and family playing on the lake, i said must be nice in todays economy, he said yea i laid off over 100 employees and more soon, well i was done with this conversation then because ive laid off and closed my business and when i did get to take mine to the water i was not realy into it like before thinking about people with no jobs, it amazes me the dont care attitude this guy had, i could tell by his tone and the way he would talk he was not a good employer, i hope next summer is better for all.

Re: Hate this time of the year
Yeah when I named my boat "this time of year" this time of year was far away l.o.l. It was 94 degrees on tuesday and I made the most of it. I hit the water after work around 3:30 and din't leave until dark. I know I will get one or two more times out but that was the last for swimming to say the least. This morning it was 38 degrees with frost on the roof of my house. It warmed up nice today but it was a reminder that the end of this season is near. It makes me sad but I know next season will be here sooner than we all think. On a side note being in the snow removal buisness , the winter pays for my boating / boat projects . So if I can't be on the boat it might as well be snowing !!!

Get him? For what? For giving over 100 people a job? His willingness to put his capital at risk may be the only reason those people had a job in the past few years. Just a different point of view, I guess.katieclooney wrote:Karma will get that guy.wedge542 wrote:with massive layoffs, closeings fuel prices our lake been very very slow this yr not even many at swim area like in the past, we got to take ours a few times only, was talking with a guy that had a mansion on our lake and just bought a new benny with all the bells , i ask him where he was buying fuel and he said a certain marina down the lake because he knew the owner and knew the fuel was clean and would spend several hundred a mnth with all his water toys and family playing on the lake, i said must be nice in todays economy, he said yea i laid off over 100 employees and more soon, well i was done with this conversation then because ive laid off and closed my business and when i did get to take mine to the water i was not realy into it like before thinking about people with no jobs, it amazes me the dont care attitude this guy had, i could tell by his tone and the way he would talk he was not a good employer, i hope next summer is better for all.
