You can enjoy your ice and snow.

I'll stay home and complain about the 44 degree weather we are having this week. These old bones feel the cold too much to live in the North. :)

I didn't want to hijack anyone else thread of misery, because I know that much of the nation is suffering indignities worse than they are used to. This includes myself.

The numbers are in and they aren’t pretty.
Int’l. Falls had its second coldest December on record averaging 4.1 degrees BELOW zero. Yep day in and night out. Lovely.
Set a new record with 8 days going 30 below or colder.
New Year’s hit 40 below and the next night was 42 below.
All I can do is dream of those long July nights when we are still in blazing sunshine while those down South are already fast asleep in the dark.

Yeah, I got yer global warming right heah….ummm if I could feel ‘em….or even find ‘em

More interesting frigid news: Preliminary filming is about to begin on Monday for a new reality series. The crews have been up here scouting for about a year or better. It isn’t named yet or fully formatted but it is to be centered around our severe cold. By coincidence, wind chill is predicted for 60 below that day. The show is going to be based in (Fairly Reliable) Woody’s pub on the lake which is one of my ‘home’ lake bars. I have mentioned in other posts about jamming there, which I have been doing for years. I just played six hours without break there on New Year’s Eve (hic)

I graduated with Woody and he is certainly going to be one of the lead characters, and what a character he is! I can’t even begin to describe this place. It is only the size of a postage stamp but it is a must see for tourists and is known nationwide….sort of. The t-shirts are everywhere-Woody’s Fairly Reliable Guide Service…Ranier, MN http://www.fairlyreliable.com/

The film crew is supposed to be here for about a month. I’m sure they will be out ice-fishing, spearing, ice-harvesting, sledding, mushing, logging and just trying to start their cars. If they are Southern Boys, they will be in for a real culture shock! That might make for good film right there, the crew whining….and whine they will. They always do. Then they get over it after they learn how to dress, how to eat, how to breathe, how to move.

It is quite possible that I might make some background footage singing my usual diarrhea of dirty songs in the bar. I want no part in being a TV whore tho. The town has plenty of other oddball characters to keep the cameras occupied. This could be quite an experience. I’ll keep you guys posted as it develops.

I saw my coldest ever day the other day. My home thermometer reckoned it was -39.4degC and guys at work say they saw -41 - and I don't disbelieve them.... It was a bit chilly - I had to put on a long sleeve shirt.

It seems to be a current cycle of extreme cold (-30degC or below for several days) followed by a brief respite of warmer temps (maybe 15degC) but another big dump of snow. It's not making for a fun winter so far. The snowblower is getting a lot more use than the sleds.
