Had to get a Diesel

#1 Post by Cycleman07 » Fri Mar 07, 2014 7:28 am

Well after getting 7 mpg pulling my South Bay last summer, I decided to go back to a Diesel. 2011 GMC Sierra 2500 SLT Duramax. :nana

Congrats! You'll have a hard time ever going back to gas engines. Looks like a really clean truck.

The diesels' value comes after it's 10 years old, as they just last so long. Mine is 12 years old with 115K miles--just broken in.

Good deal, people keep asking me how long I'm going to keep my 2005 diesel, I said I'll give up on it at a million miles or so, unless the government outlaws older diesels thanks to the EPA.

I had to replace the thermostat the other day at 160 thousand miles, I love gas parts guys, he asked is it over heating, I said no it won't warm up, I told I lost a water pump a month back, it was leaking and I still made two hundred mile round trip and never overheated or refilled the radiator

I love my Cummins, even with the noise it makes at shut down, I'm not going to sneak up on anyone that's for sure

I hate the fact you have to fill DEF tank with ever fill up and that cost as much as the fuel with the new trucks, Dodge came out with a 1500 with a V-6 Diesel that gets 28 miles a gallon this year, for the people who want a diesel but don't need the heavy duty truck.

Enjoy the new ride for a long time :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Nice truck! I have a 13 Cummings 1ton that is our service truck for the company, although it gets horrible mileage (8-10mpg) the DEF fluid last a couple months. As soon as its out of warranty I'm going to install a couple delete kits exhaust and a programmer to double the mpg and boost the already tremendous amount of power

The DEF isn't that bad. I was worried about it when I got my 6.7 ford but it's a non issue. Depending on how I drive I can get 5-8k miles on a tank. My truck holds 5 gallons but you cannot have it full in the winter. Below 10 degrees the stuff will expand. If you run a truck hard and do not drive it like a car the exhaust temps get hot enough that you don't use much. I have to admit I found out about DEF after I set up the deal to buy my truck. I thought it was a joke at first l.o.l

Diesel exhaust fluid, Bunch of epa crap. It's basically water and urea injected to clean up the exhaust.

Urea? That sounds as if it's liquid fertilizer.

But it works. And the heavy trucks are also having to use the stuff. Navistar tried to build a over the road diesel with out DEF, and they just about bet the future of the company on it. They failed, and are having to use other brands of engines in their big trucks using DEF. It's with us in the future.

Oh yea, and now EPA is out to remove more sulfur from Gas too, so I guess the gas cars will have DEF too soon to stop global warming
