Southbay Strakes

#1 Post by smoker62 » Sat Mar 15, 2014 10:24 am

Does anyone have a SB with strakes that can give me mounting dimensions ? Say the dimension from the centerline of the keel to the bottom of the strake , front and back , unless they run parrallel, then just one dimension ? Also maybe how far from the back of the tube they start or maybe from the front , not sure which would be more critical to hold if I had a different length strake than you.

Dang! Wish I would have seen this earlier. I was out working on the boat today. I have a chassis from a 522 series. I believe the strakes go all the way to the rear. They do start a ways back from where the nosecone meets the tube. When I'm out there next I'll try to get a measurement. I may make it out there tomorrow to keep working on some things. If so, I'll try to get you some measurements.

if you look at this pic, you can see the inner strake on the right toon goes all the way back.

same here too

I'll try to get measurements of the front keel to strake distance and the rear keel to strake distance as well as the distances from the nosecone/toon weld to the start of the strake.

The strakes all go to the back of the tubes, and they run parallel full length (meaning they don't angle up or down along the run of the tube). They tend to vary on the front as to where they start, how ever I believe this is simply a "use what we have" thing and not related to performance in any way. On this particular chassis the outsides start approx. 15" back and the center 34" back. The center tube is approx. 20" longer so that makes sense to me. I hope these pics help.

Thanks Ty. I didn't make it out yesterday and it will be this weekend before I'll get there again.
