How to remove console for recarpeting

#1 Post by smoedog » Thu May 29, 2014 5:42 am

I got a free toon that just needs new carpet. Everything is going fine other than cursing the previous owner for not using stainless hardware when they put new furniture down. The only thing left is the console. Not to worried about the wiring since im thinking im going to rewire the boat but what about the steering and control cables? I have a 96 Mercury 50 horse and am wondering if it is possible to disconnect at the console or do I have to disconnect at the motor?

You may not have to disconnect your steering cables and motor controls. I was able to loosen everything up and lay the console on its side on a support right next to my deck. Read this viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15791

Thanks for the idea, I'll have to see if there is enough slack in there to lay it over
