Towables; how much is too much?
Ok, so I'm looking at the Chariot Warbird 3. But as I'm thinking about buying it I'm also thinking that, "hey, maybe this tube with 3 - 14yr. olds is gonna be too much for the 150hp to pull!" So maybe I should get the Chariot Warbird 2. So what do you think, Warbird 2 or 3?

Re: Towables; how much is too much?
to much for a 150hp, NO. I have some success getting a HUGE 4 person Mable/big brawler outside the wake behind my 70hp with kids on it, Adults is a different story. I find there is little difference between pulling a small 2 person tube and a huge 4+ person tube, if you can pull a small one it will handle a bigger one. With my 70hp I need to run with just the captain and a spotter on the toon but my home brewed 3 logger is only ~1800# WITH the motor and a full tank of gas.

We have the warbird 2, we have had 3 adults on it and have no problems slinging it out of the wake with the 150 on our Premier, but we also have the booster ball, It keeps the rope out the water and makes it easier to get tubes out of the wake. Also make sure the tube is fully inflated, if it is under inflated I can feel the extra drag when I pull it, and it is much harder to give a "good" ride, but when fully inflated it glides over the water nicely.

I routinely pull a Super Mable (3 person similar to the warbird) with three adults. I try to keep them at about 25mph and I turn between 3500 and 4000rpm to do it. I can easily get them over 30mph if I go WOT

My little 90hp motor, on my 26' toon, can pull 2 adults, and give an ok ride. I would guess that with an extra 60hp, you should be able to sling 3 kids on a tube, pretty easilly.

oh.... we used to have/use a 3 person, sit-up type tube... worked well... TOO BIG to fit convenient into boat when hauling.... and TOO HEAVY to lift into boat when hauling...
keep those things in consideration, too
this 2 person hot dog fits real well right on our sun pad, and doesn't blow off, even at WOT... and light... very light to lift from water...

True. I will typically keep my tube in the water, but I tie it up to a deck cleat, really closely behind the boat, so no water gets thrown into it from the boat's wake. Seems to not hurt our speed one bit, since there isn't really much drag on an empty tube. This frees up all sorts of deck space too.

Re: Towables; how much is too much?
we also have a big mable three person tube, i have not pulled her with the pontoon yet. one reason i moved the fencing and opened up 30 inches on the front swim deck was for storing the tube while cruising.
the tube was a big factor in losing the runabout and getting a pontoon

Re: Towables; how much is too much?
I am pulling a 2 person flat tube and I can really swing them around when I get 3 teenagers on it. When I have 1 or 2 its not so easy but I can get them outside the wake.

We have a Big Mable, not sure how our 60 hp will do at pulling it. Considering pulling with big waverunner. Anybody doing that?
