ADDING THIRD TOON
I purchased a 2003 sun tracker regency 27ft party barge 3.0 i/o this last winter used it this summer and loved it but i have decided to add a third toon to it my questions are
1. my pontoon has 26 inch round toons the one i bought is the same diameter do i mount it same depth as the pontoons that are on it or drop it down some
2.do i put it level with the nose cones and the front out side toons or in front or back of outside toons
3.the third pontoon i bought has lifting strakes on it do i remove them or keep them from what i have read online that you need some horsepower for them to work. and since i have the 3.0 i/o would they even work
thank you very much

Re: ADDING THIRD TOON
It's just my opinion, but I would keep the lifting strakes, mount the center toon a couple inches lower and even with the current toons nose cones. again just my opinion.

Re: ADDING THIRD TOON
Some folk(me one of them) feel that the lower center toon will help you bank on turns at speed. The folks at Manitou think so as well. Beaching should not be a problem with just a small difference.

Re: ADDING THIRD TOON
As you stated - How fast do you really go??? I would
1. Mount pontoon exactly the same height as the outer two - it will affect beaching as it is lower, thus the boat will tilt when beached. Know this for a fact as a friend of mine has this issue and hates it. Also if you are not "performance" pontooning you will not have much affect on cornering
2. Mount pontoon in same position as other tubes - going forward only adds something that someone may hit while jumping off the front.
2. Leave strakes - more chance to damagetube while trying to remove, they wont hurt anything
I added a third tube to mine and it made all the difference in the world. I would NEVER own a two tube pontoon again
Regards

Re: ADDING THIRD TOON
I added a 3rd log to my pontoon 2 years ago. I set my log 2" lower than my main logs set it back 18" from the back of my main logs that made it set 12" back from the front of my main logs. It made the pontoon handle better it the turns and made it ride across the waves real smooth. My 3rd log has strakers on it and it helps me get on plane better and fast. I'm real happy with the modifcations that I have made to my pontoon.

Re: ADDING THIRD TOON
Any pics Cabinetman, as I'm not quite sure I'm following you? Can you tell me the length of your outside logs, the distance between the end of center log to the start of your v transom? I've got a 20' and want to add a center log (about 12'???), not to increase my load carrying capacity, but to help keep the nose up as I've got two 2 person bench seats on both sides at the very front.Cabinetman wrote:I added a 3rd log to my pontoon 2 years ago. Re: ADDING THIRD TOON
My main logs are 21ft long. The 3rd log is 22ft long I miss spoke on the front set back. The front of my 3rd log is 8" back from the front of my main logs that set the back of my center log 18" behind my main logs. I also added a jack plate that set the motor back another 5" so that I would have clearance when I tilted up my motor.

That looks like it will work. With the gen set and big fuel tank you are ready to cruise. Let us know how the under skin works on the stern.

Re: ADDING THIRD TOON
Good to know. I realized after adding my center toon that that the water coming inbetween those tunes now is like a nozzle. I had to redo my steering and control cables beacause they almost got ripped off. Your "guards" look like a good idea.
