Illinois give credits? hahahahahaha

no. we dont get any break for gas.[/quote]
It looks like they do rebate for non highway use gas. That is why in Delaware you get the tax back.

If you want to see what mercury Marine says about Ethanol
http://legacy.mercurymarine.com/media/m ... 8-25_1.pdf
Basically, a lot of people blame ethanol for fuel problems when it is not the cause.
There is a lot of money to be made by selling snake oil.

keep your tank full to prevent condensation.
Buy fresh fuel (see my earlier post in this thread)
Use fuel stabilizer for storage
optional to add fuel treatment to prevent oxidization
Mike
but is THIS the fuel treatment i should be using?

everybody will have an opinion on what to use
i am using this product by quicksilver (mercury marine)
it is recommended highly by my dealer (of course they sell it)
I also found it at wal mart for 8.95 per bottle
i am sure the product by Lucas is also good.
if I had a good source of non ethanol fuel i would use it
i would not worry about using ethanol fuel when needed
good luck and enjoy your new boat

If you are going through a lot of gas then I dont think it is going to matter if it does or doesnt. The longer the fuel is in the tank the more I would be inclined to use ethanol free it it was available. In either case I would treat the fuel. A lot of people like sea foam and there is startron.
Another thing to consider is how the gas thank vents. Up untill a year or 2 ago the tanks had an open vent to the atmosphere. So every dry the heat cycle would pump air in and out of the tank. Over time there is a chance a lot of water vapor condensed and collected in the fuel. New tanks are not open to the atmosphere and should allow as much vapor in.
I think the biggest things to consider are how much gas does the boat dock sell. IF it is not selling much I would avoid it. The other is to have the proper filters for you boat and to maintain them.
We have had ethanol in our fuel for a long time but we have still had problems with gas lines deteriorating and plugging carbs injectors etc. See if your boat has the most recent fuel line.
There is a lot of good information on bass boat central (they dont care if you have a toon) about the fuel line issues. If you have never been there they have a board for each motor brand. Mechanic and other knowledgeable people are there to answer motor questions. It is a great resource.

Thanks for the bass forum recommendation! I did fill up 89 octane w ethanol. I filled the tank and put fuel treatment in half way through. I am unsure how it vents. And the station I got it at is a busy one. I had 2 hrs on the motor when I filled her up. I am gonna watch her and see how she performs now that I have a baseline to compare usage to.

We have used street gas (87 octane) since Feb '07. Get it at the McDonalds docks on south end of Lake Conroe. I do not always remember to add the Stabil treatment but use the boat most of the year and burn a lot of gas through the Yamaha F225 filtered through the 10 micron water filter. No ill effects so far. I pull gas on a regular basis and test for water and Ethanol using

I'm feeling that in newer engines that use lots of fuel, the Ethanol problem does not exist. Lot of new Sunoco stations are popping up around our lake which I know sell non Ethanol fuel down in Destin Florida. I've not checked to see if they do here. The marinas sell gas treated with something called biobor or valvtect at about a dollar/gallon more.

I have run 10% ethanol in my tank since 2005 and have never added a treatment for ethanol. I do add sea foam when I store it in the winter. I have never had a fuel issue with my boat. Just my 2 cents.
