Hope you all had a safe 4th!

#1 Post by C_M_25 » Sun Jul 05, 2015 9:00 am

I hope any of you that were brave enough to get out on the water this weekend had a safe trip. Unfortunately, there were multiple accidents on Grand Lake resulting in fatality. Please be safe out there and don't drink while running the boat!!!

We went out Friday morning and the idiots that were putting their boats in when we were leaving were all the evidence I needed to stay off the water. We saw a bow rider driven by a high school kid with about 10 people on it; we saw somebody back their trailer off of the side of the ramp, and we had some twenty-something with a wakesetter mouth my wife while she was holding my baby when our boat was beached while I got the truck. Apparently, he was mad because we were taking too long to get off the beach (dock was closed). She didn't tell me until we pulled away from the lake because she knew I would have broke his nose. Oh well...The holidays always bring out the best!!

We didn't get on the water until 7 pm . went down the river to watch the fireworks at Beaumont. Nice float down and a good picnic there and a cool ride back up at 10 pm. 17 folks on two pontoons and a good time was had by all.

Having pretty much spent the majority of my summers on Grand Lake, I wouldn't be caught dead on that lake over a holiday weekend. It's a idiot magnet of the highest degree.
We had a great weekend , actually Thursday thru Sat of boat time on Ft. Gibson. No crazies , lake was glass and the weather was good. Worn out, broke and too much sun but what a great weekend on the lake!!!

Like others have said, I stayed off the water on the fourth. Got out early this morning (lake Ellsworth,Ok) caught 4 Saugeye and two white bass all in three hours.

Sadly, our plans for a fun time were cut short by my 85 year old mother-in-law falling and breaking her left femur and then needing surgery.

Friday evening, we weren't entirely sure she was going to live as her BP dropped to 61/45 and her O2 Sats were down in the high 60's.

Good news is that she's doing better now and the bone is fixed.

We had a great 4th watching lots of fireworks in the parking area at the boat ramp. This was the first weekend of the summer that the water level allowed access to the ramp so it was very busy during the daytime. Since our dock is the first one near the boat ramp, we had front row seating for all of the excitement. Only saw a few skegs get drug up the boat ramp when the motors weren't raised enough. Saw a few PWCs come in too fast and about rip the post off the front of the trailers. You could tell there were a lot of families that were excited to finally get to spend some time on the water - long line of boats being launched. But everyone kept their cool and tried to assist if others needed any help.
