Best flooring for dogs

#1 Post by H8Monday » Fri Apr 07, 2017 7:15 pm

Good evening crew!

We are in the final selection stages in our pontoon buying process.

We've narrowed it down to 3 makes and models.

Qwest 824 Lanai Bar
Cypress Cay 253 CWEB
Avalon LSZ Entertainer 26'

Power will be the Verado 200 Pro ( 6 cyl )

We are however, struggling with the flooring options. Boat crew will be my wife and myself, and our Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky.

What is your experience with dog hair on the various flooring? The woodgrain vinyl seems like the easy choice, but I'm afraid it would have a tendancy to get hot-ish.

Suggestions?

Regards,

-Todd-

We like the vinyl on our toon.

As for "Hotish"?

Dump a bucket of water on it.

Muddy dog prints?

Dump a bucket of water on it.

Fish guts, blood stink bait?

Dump a bucket of water on it.

Gets dirty? Squirt some Simple Green on it, use a long handled brush to clean and then dump a bucket of water on it.

But that's us.

Your mileage may vary.

I second the vinyl and bucket of water. Mine is Golden and Labrador Retriever approved.

Looks like vinyl it is!

Also, have you done any testing? I'm of the opinion that the orange Home Depot bucket out performs the blue model from Lowes... :biggrin2

My personal favorite is the used red pickle bucket from Firehouse Subs.

Where are you from? I have a Qwest with the gray teak vinyl. ours doesn't get very hot but I'm in NH. my dog hates the boat but he's a 170lb Newfy so balance while in a boat isn't his strong suit.

We are in Utah. Summer air temps are often 100+ I had a grey SeaDek vinyl floor in my Eliminator, and that got really hot if I didn't keep the bimini up.

The new Sea Grass type floors seem like they would be really comfy on bare feet, but I'm wondering how furry the floor will get as it traps the dog hair.

I would go sea grass, I've heard there easy to clean, but haven't heard specifically about dogs. Light pressure washer I would imagine.

I have both the Homer Buckets and the Firehouse Subs Buckets.

Homer Buckets for anchors and Luggable Loo Toilet Seat.

Firehouse Subs Buckets for dumping a bucket of water on the deck.

Just always keep in mind, Old Firemen never grow old.

We just get longer hoses.

I opted for the Maxwell House plastic container with the handle. Comes in very handy for drink spills & dirt.
I went with vinyl. I was concerned about the sea grass as it has a slight cushion to it. I was worried my dogs nails may puncture or pull it.

We love our 2016 Qwest. We got the diamond sea grass floor and never noticed it feeling hot the first summer.
