Re: Stabil vs. Sea Foam
I'm getting different stories from everyone these days. I was a believer in Seafoam until I was told not to use it to stabilize ethanol gas and to use Startron (blue) instead. Last year as everyone knows I used Seafoam and had fuel related issues in the spring. This year I am using Startron (have every fill up since replacing the carb in June). I am running the tank dry as recommended by Boat US and my marina (both say no fuel = no gelling or phase separating). We will see in spring...
Still use Seafoam in the engine to clean carbon in my truck and boats but not as a winter stabilizer.

Re: Stabil vs. Sea Foam
I was visiting with some folks that keep their toon at our local marina. They are contractors with Gov and just returned from a year in Iraq. They had their toon stabilized with stabil before they left. Well Mon they went for a cruise and found the motor wouldn't start. After complete carb rebuild and cleaning the fuel tank they got out today. Seems stabil is not good for a year or more. I told them about seafoam and they are using it now. When they go back they will drain fuel system and hope for the best

Re: Stabil vs. Sea Foam
I read on another forum where some people have had very good success using both Startron and Stabil together when winterizing their boats.

Re: Stabil vs. Sea Foam
Yeah every marina/mechanic I talk to seems to have a different opinion on additives/to drain or fill the tank, etc. Boat US's November magazine says to drain the fuel tank if possible. If not possible to fill it 95 percent. They said the most water absorption occurs if the tank is 1/2 full or so. Mine was full last winter and I still had issues.

Re: Stabil vs. Sea Foam
Well.. i never did get to filling my tank before putting er down for the winter, so we'll see what happens...
Its just over about 1/4 full, but with a whole can of Seafoam in it....
Also, I started it with the seafoam in there when i winterized the engine and could tell it was running through the engine... ie abit of smoke, so hopefully all will be good....

Re: Stabil vs. Sea Foam
I'm a Seafoam guy, but this year I've heard the same thing as BMR that Seafoam won't work. Someone said that the MDS on seafoam says it's alcohol based, so that would make sense that it won't help with the alcohol issue.
There is another one beside Startron that is recommended, but I can't remember the name right now. The new Marine Stabil is supposed to work with the alcohol issue. It's a different color, green or something. I haven't seen it anywhere so I haven't tried it yet.
I can't drain my tank, so it's full with two cans of seafoam ( I read the info about seafoam not working after I winterized it.)

I have used it and am currently using it. It reportedly can preserve gasoline for 3 yrs and can restore octane to the crap the congress has foisted off on us! I am not affiliated wiht the company, found out about from a preppers forum I frequent
