Well at least there chart shows only a low pitch of 9.0 is what I thought was the lowest should be on a 50hp, you can try a lower pitch from another manufacturer but it will start to kill your speed.

One other note hear and some may disagree but 50hp or less on pontoons the size of your and mine due run in lower rpm,s because of drag by pontoons by HP ratio, higher HP helps with higher rpm's, if you are getting 20 mph with that setup than I would say it seems to be running ok.

Hey Timmac,
what you say below:

makes sense to me about lower hp and drag. In reading other posts about speeds with much bigger motors and not much more speed did always put a smile on my face, especially when it takes me four or five weekends to go thru 6 gallons of gas!!

Hey pontoon shine did yo try out that piranha prop yet, I got mine in and it raised my rpm's from 5000 to 5350 with 2 people on board, 5500 rpm's by myself, my speed did increase some as well, I think these props are pretty good so far, I really like its take off and faster to plane as well.

I hope you had a positive result like I did.

My old prop 9.75 dia x 9.5 pitch aluminum and now new piranha is 10.0 dia x 9.0 pitch.

Hey timmac thanks for the shout out. Glad to hear you had positive results, I was not as fortunate. I was excited to get it and finally installed it yesterday afternoon, lost 5 mph and 700 rpms. I had a 12.25 x 9 aluminum in which I replaced with the new prop that stated on blades 12 x 9, (ordered 12.25 x 9) so I am not sure of exact size, it does seem a bit smaller than the aluminum. Thinking I may have engine problems due to the prop hit and damage to it I put on spare aluminum props and had same results as usual with them so I conclude engine is just fine but piranha in that size gives poor results as compared to aluminum. Will call monday and see what they suggest for replacements. I am sure I will go to the 10 dia range, pitch who knows at this point. By the way what brand motor are you running and what did you get for top speed? Thanks, Neal

I am starting to think you might have some engine problems, maybe you don't see it but you might have to have boat mechanic look at it.

My new 10D x 9P prop from piranha is a little smaller diameter compared to the 9.75D x 9.5P aluminum, but it moved my rpm's up 300 with 2 people on board and my speed increase some, I am now running around 5350 rpm compared to 5050 with the aluminum, it also ran smoother from what I could tell.

I don't know my speed have not check yet but it was faster by at least 1-2 mph, my motor is 2010 30hp merc 4 stroke EFI on a 18 foot pontoon with 21 inch toons.
[ I estimate I am running around 18-20 mph, 2 adults ]

The piranha is lighter than the aluminum you should have been higher in rpm's or at least the same, sorry this did not work for you but I am thinking something is not right with your motor because a 9 pitch on a 50 hp should be in rpm range..

Hi timmac,
No engine problems, the thing runs so quiet you can't hear it run if you are sitting more than 5 or 6 feet away. Always starts easy. Had to a shop once and the guy told me I wasted my money and his time looking at it. It has to be a prop issue or maybe even a motor mounting issue, to high or to low. I actually sent a email tonight to Godfrey (boat manufacturer) for their input on the issue. I will say I was not happy with the piranha results, will give them a call after I hear from Godfrey. I love the boat and the motor, just would like to see those rpms where they should be. Sounds like you have yours dialed in just perfect, how deep is your prop compared to your toons, any idea? Thanks, Neal

Hey Neal, lucky you I keep my boat parked on side of my house, 1st off I have a 20 inch shaft on motor, heard you should have nothing less for pontoons, and I have that device on back [don't know what correct name is] but the motor mounts on that so its off the deck and back 18 inches and down a little, I measured from the center of the prop to bottom of toons and its around 8 inches below the toons, [middle of shaft to bottom of toon, 8 inches].

One other note I also have the SE sport 200 mounted on motor, it lifted the back a little during cruising, it has helped me, here is a link to that, but you need to get those rpm's up a little more 1st.

Hope this helps..
