It looks like the dock came down on the front of that pontoon boat with the rear end sticking up in the air.

I got my boat out this afternoon...Had to disassemble the bimini top frame (what was left of it anyway) to get it untangled from the dock roof (what was left of it anyway). Some things were hurt worse than I thought, others, not as bad. It'll probably be a pretty big damage claim but the boat is basically still in one piece and not too bad. REAL wet though.

Did someone ask for some more carnage pics...I'm uploading a bunch of them now...

I figure the South facing part of the dock had to be up in the air to about a 45 degree angle before it crashed back down again. Some boats tipped inward on their lifts, others must have had their lifts get caught while the lift was in the air and tilted them outwards when the dock crashed back down.

I'll post the pics in a few...

Man, that sucks big time. It looks like you got by relatively easy compared to that Premier owner.

Too bad the marina doesn't have surveillance cameras. That would be some scary footage seeing the dock being lifted.

lsvance.... so sorry to hear about your boat. I know we all love our boats and I know that sucks.... from your pics looks like your boat may have weathered the storm better than most. Of course the good news is you and your family weren't out on the boat when the storm blew in.... that could have been a real tragedy..... what you have can be fixed....... Hope your boat insurance comes thru for you.

Thanks, and yes I feel very fortunate all things considered. I'm still not sure how they are going to get a couple of those boats dislodged from the dock without doing even more harm to them.

Just out of curiosity, whose insurance is responsible for this? Obivously, the boat owners insurance would pay, but if these are rental slips, then wouldn't the landowner/ dock owner have an insurance policy also that would cover damage to the leasee's property due to damage caused by the dock?

Direct from the slip lease agreement

2. LICENSEE covenants and agrees that the COUNTY or any of its employees shall not be liable to LICENSEE or his/her
agents, guests, or employees for any damage to them or their persons or property arising from, but not limited to, theft, burglary, water, rain, snow, wind, hail, ice, sleet, fire, frost, storm or accidents, nor the negligence of others that may cause damage of any kind whatsoever.

3. LICENSEE covenants and agrees he/she will indemnify and hold harmless the COUNTY, its agents and employees from and
against all claims, damages, losses and expenses arising out of the acts caused in whole or in part by the LICENSEE'S negligent act of omission, or that of anyone employed by LICENSEE, or for whose acts the LICENSEE may be liable. LICENSEE hereby acknowledges that theft, vandalism, and damage due to dock conditions are problems inherent to boat storage, and especially to non-attended boat storage, and that the COUNTY neither guarantees or implies the security or condition of any stored craft or shall be held in any way responsible for security or condition.

My boat owners insurance is going to cover the damage to the boat and my homeowners policy is going to cover any damage to my hoist.

They may still be looking for that crane to get some of those boats out of there. I guess they will still keep picking this mess apart until they get to the real hard stuff. All things considered it may not really be that bad. If they had spawned a little tornado out of that storm boats could be scattered all over the shore line and across the lake.
We had one in Treasure Island (Near St Pete) that picked up a 28' toon, ripped it apart and threw one of the logs through a storm shutter into a neighbor's living room. They were out of town when it happened so nobody got hurt. Those shutters are rated for a 2x4 coming in at 100 MPH, not a 28' pontoon.

Water is about 20' deep at my slip, I'd imagine it's 10' to 15' deep up near the shore end of the dock.

Damage to the boat (no matter what/who caused it) - covered by the boat's policy.

Dock/slip/lift - usually the marina's insurance unless the rental agreement states the renter must have coverage for that. In Maryland, it's on the marina's insurance.

Sounds like a fairly common indemnity form.

I have heard that it is very common at LOTO since the 2 massive ice/snow storms of recent years.

So, do ya get slip rental credit since ya can't use it for the rest of the season?
