shape of pontoons
Can someone tell me the difference between round pontoons and square pontoons. I found a boat i like but it has large square pontoons. Are there any real differences?

Re: shape of pontoons
My guess with the square pontoons you may not chop throught the water as well, meaning a slightly rougher ride. However, if they are truely square, they may be able to plane on the water, if you have enough HP to push them. I would be very interested in seeing pictures of these "square" pontoons, as stated above, I've never seen any.

If someone has square pontoon pics, I'd love to see them. I tried to google them, but had no success.

Re: shape of pontoons
I've been sort of gathering links to pontoon boat manufactures and there actually are in some respects some latitude in design. In reality the pontoons on this model from what I can see on the photo's do appear to be what some would call square http://www.chinookboats.com/chinookPhot ... ional.html.The_Hellbilly wrote:If someone has square pontoon pics, I'd love to see them. Thanks Bamby. FWIW: it looks like it planes really well.

Re: shape of pontoons
I dont know how to put pics on here.
Not truely square. beveled on both ends but square in the middle instead of round.
It is a misty Harbor. First one Ive seen with pontoons shaped this way. So for no one has been able to tell me if there's any real difference or why would I want square?? Just dont want to buy something and find out later they stink! This will be my first pontoon boat.

Re: shape of pontoons
It was the first planing pontoon that I know of. In a 2 log with a 125 or so it preformed very well.

I wonder how it handles when you have the motor mounted on one pontoon instead of a middle transom?Bamby wrote:http://www.chinookboats.com/chinookPhot ... ional.html[/url].The_Hellbilly wrote:If someone has square pontoon pics, I'd love to see them. I tried to google them, but had no success.

Re: shape of pontoons
If this works it is the boat I was talking about. Hope it helps.

Actually... I'll bet it turns right better. More drag on the right side of the boat, will make that side go slower, and therefore turn to the right easier. I wonder if this was to counter balance the torque steer that some motors give

Looking at the front of those pontoons I'd bet a person would take a terrible pounding on rough choppy water. Just can't see how it would could be otherwise. POL331 if you're really interested or inclined to buy it, make darn sure you get some time on the water with it "before you hand them your cash".
