Japan will most likely take decades to recover from these disasters. They may not recover, at least not in my lifetime. And guess what? They own a trillion or so of our debt. They won't be buying up anymore of our debt and may have to sell off what they've got now.

We've lost a good, stable trading partner......at least for the near future. I don't think we really know what that means yet. As they say.......time will tell.

I think that if they can get a handle on that reactor complex they could concentrate on fixing the infrastructure and get going again. Right now they don't even know how much of the country they can save.

Same story here. When I needed to get a new Yamaha prop dealer told me it would take alittle longer than ususual because of the disaster Japan. Fortunately I got it within a week or so but that was pretty much "right after" the quake and tsunami, before alot of the parts distributors in this country ran out.

I would be surprised if Honda or Yamaha don't open another plant outside of Japan to keep things rolling, but even that would take time.

My boat is made in Florida about 20 minutes north of me, but I wonder how many of the parts are made in the US. Sometimes I think Made in USA actually just means assembled in the USA.

Large displacement motors usually carry a pretty hefty insurance claim, and just like cars the serial numbers are recorded if it had not made it to a consumer yet. So if any manufacture/distributer/dealer turns in a salvage claim for an engine it's serial number is recorded with the manufacture (so they won't have to warranty it in the future).
Just one boat...after another, after another :-)

As a mechanic when I hear the word Chinese it makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck and I get that funny feeling like you don't know whether to trust a fart or your really about the crap your pants.... :biggrin2 . I know they can't built a tire good enough to drive over here if possible, Or Orings, ball joint and tie rod boots. Good Lord somebody make them stop!! Somebody left something out of the equation when they thought they could make rubber which might explain their population .... did I say that out loud. Sorry.. I'm totally not predjudice unless someone's just plain evil...... just sayin. I'm sad for the Japs and we all know this won't be the last time something like this happens. Glad I live in the middle of high ground all I have to worry about is the occasional tornado. Wonder what's in store for the future as far as economical impact.

Congrats on getting the motor. Our dealer is a Merc and it appears that they are having supply issues regardless of what Mercury Marine's announcement from April 4th states. All the dealers I've called said 2 weeks to 2 months for delivery. Thinking a used pontoon with a motor is sounding pretty good right now.

I guess when you put pressure on one end of the market it shows up everywhere. Yamaha buyers end up buying Mercury and they run out.
