WHAAAAAAAT

I didn't even think you could use dial up anymore.
I have a 40 E-Tec with a 6 gal tank. I'm on a small lake so normally I just buzz around for a while then Anchor. I'm guessing that I probably get about 5 MPG. If your going out on some long day trips I would really invest in a bigger tank or a spare.

Yup, a larger tank is in order. The lake I prefer to go to is approx. 60,000 acres and somewhere around 40 miles long. Lots of places to get lost so extra fuel will be a must.

Since I moved here from NPR, FL I've gone from DSL to dial-up, 30' Sea Ray to 18' pontoon, and I myself have slowed quite a bit..........you get used to it.

I too may be retired, but I'm not ready to put my life in slow motion. I have too many places in this world to go, and too many things to see.
I do believe that a retiree needs a cell phone (not smart phone) only to call for help in case the boat breaks down while out on the river. I'm embarrassed that I don't even know my own cell phone # when asked. That way I seldom receive a phone call. And don't text me, because I don't text.

Don't worry, I won't text you (don't know how).
Anyhow, Been looking at 12 gallon tanks. The price tags on these things are insane for a hunk of plastic! Before I lay out this kind of extorsion money, any one brand better than another, or do they all come from the same factory in China?

Yes their around 100 for a attwood or a moeller. If you net shop you may be able to find on on sale this time of year.
even better one at walmart for 80.00 I dont think you will find one much cheaper than that.

Yea the new bullshit EPA laws made it more expensive to make the new fuel tanks. Before that law went into effect you could buy a 12gl tank for $50.

from what I understand the gas caps for the old style tanks fit the new ones but the supply wont last for ever. I had my tanks stolen last year and it took several weeks of looking to find two new non EPA tanks and I was told for now a old cap will convert the new ones over.

My boat has a built in tank but i would like to carry a six gallon tank for a backup but was wondering if it would be okay to leave it in the compartment where the pop up changing thing is as i dont have room back by the motor.

I have in the past keep extra 5 gal cans on board but in a open area so any fumes wont built up. I wouldn't be comfortable putting one in a closed compartment.

Like MH Hawker we on occasion utilize a couple of gas cans for an occasional long run. Gas is available near the river where we run but a person hast to port it to the boat. One thing we try to do with the cans is keep the shaded and securely tied in a upright position where they won't fall over and potentially leak.
