That would be totally inadequate, sorry. You'll need multiple coats of epoxy, high quality marine paint with a primer base, or a rubberized, elastomeric coating in order to protect it.
You only need that if you make a wood boat and the wood is sitting in water and below water
If you don't seal it the splinters will drive you INSANE!
