Re: Rant!
I think this is the greatest threat to a good day at the lake and I'm looking for a fight or worse to break out any day now. These punks in their $75,000.00 ski boats think they own the lake and all the property around them. I'm lucky enough to own a lake front home and it is very disturbing. The county sheriff says he has no jurisdiction on the lake and the state water cops say there's no law against it. What ever happened to disturbing the peace? The actual owners of these boats,( parents), are well connected ( rich ) and no one wants to ruffle their feathers.

Re: Rant!
Music ( non explicit) doesn't bother me when coving out in a known party type cove. If you are in a cove enjoying peace and quiet and some jerk comes and blasts you that's another issue! I think it comes down to something plaguing the country right now....
Lack of civility!
It disturbs me that everyone couldn't care less about those around them anymore. It's become a "me" centered society and it is reflected everywhere including the lake. Loud music is one thing but profane garbage is another...
Anyone have a time machine I can borrow? I'm thinking setting it for 20-30 years ago should be about right for me?

Exactly!! I started boating on my own in 1985 (1968 with my parents) and even back then we had party coves. Most everyone knew each other and everyone had their "spots" and were there every weekend and usually one person had the killer stereo and everyone listened to it and we all had a great time. Seems these days everyone wants to be "the ultimate partier" and out do the next person by getting drunker, louder and more stupid than everyone.

Re: Rant!
Unfortunately, I agree that it should be "expected" in a party cove. But on our lake, it's really the only protected area to drop anchor and swim and not have to worry about currents or crazy a$$holes flying by at WOT. That's why we have a designated Sunday Funday where we get a sitter to watch the kids and the grown ups can go hang out in the cove. But it's pretty freaking sad that in today's society this is what's to be "expected" and I can't allow my kids to to enjoy the fun of tooning in a cove. I don't mind listening to other's music as long as it's not explicit. However, it seems that the more vulgar the lyrics in a song, the louder the volume gets. Like these kids want EVERYBODY to know that they listen to crap.
I've come up w/ a solution, though. With these Wake boats on our lake, well, they only have so much room on them. In fact, besides a sub woofer or two, all of their speakers are mounted on a tower (I counted 22 speakers on one wake board tower once). I figure I've got a 26' toon with railing all the way around it and plenty of deck space AND double Bimini frames. I've got a TON of under seat storage to mount extra Amps and even a third and fourth battery if needed. I figure I'll just play their game. I think next year I'm going to invest a sizable amount of money in a very LOUD stereo system, with as many outward facing speakers as possible. I'm talking 360 degrees around the boat....not just facing one way from a tower (wouldn't want someone to be able to get up wind of me), then I'm going to give my 5yr old daughter full access to my iTunes account. When the explicit rap songs come on, I'll completely drown them out with kids music. Hell, might even pull right beside them, anchor up, and play the Barney theme song as loud as effing possible!!

Re: Rant!
Yep, like I mentioned previously, there should be some common courtesy with regards to the volume and explicit language in the music. But unfortunately, that just doesn't happen with many of today's younger generations. But to think you can demand peace and quiet or contact anyone of authority to do anything about it, just isn't going to happen - they might cite them for other things, but not for their choice or volume of music. So either get used to it or go find the "old farts cove" on your favorite lake.

Re: Rant!
I pulled the same crap with an old nieghbors kid, I tell him if he wanted to turn it up for a song or two I could take it, but wasn't going to put up with it longer than that, so one day he decided to push the issue and show up the old man.
His only problem was, I have NSYNC's old concert speakers in my living room as they lived for a short time across the street till they hit it big, so he started with the bass crap and I pulled out a six hour CD mag with old country with a lot of walking bass in it.
Threw open the doors to let the speakers work, as the closed house held them back big time, I was working outback and need some music to listen while working anyway, the third song I heard his crap stop, the door slam and he walked down the street to get away from my music.
To bad it didn't work as my nieghbors an 1/8 mile away called to say the music sounded good keep it going, so I did for six hours, never had another problem, don't mess with old men, they just might have a trick to beat you.

Absolutely... LE can write them for the volume- "Noise Pollution", Doubt it happens very often, but if people are complaining & it's blatantly obvious that it's disrupting an entire area...He's getting one.OK Toon wrote: they might cite them for other things, but not for their choice or volume of music.
LE made a guy take his boat off our lake a few weeks ago because it was too loud (exhaust), I guess they got complaints about it. I was surprised to hear about since the LE on our lake are pretty lenient.

I play in a regional touring rock band and I own the PA system. It is a solid 20,000 watt system with 4 sub cabinets with 2-18" subs per cabinet with mid and hi cabs to go along with it. I told my wife that if I could get it all on the toon and a couple generators to run it efficiently, there wouldn't be a stereo that could be heard within at least 200 yards of us. I would gladly wear ear protection and play some great classical music at about 140db and see how fast they complain or move.

I've found that the youth of today have little tolerance for the classics (Slim Whitman or Hank Willimas Sr etc).
I work for an organization that furnishes hailing devices, essentially sound cannons, to Navy ships. I soooooo want to borrow one for a day and fire that puppy up. They are highly directional with the back lobe being small enough that I can aim it at the current perp and blast him with over 150dB while only getting about 70dB myself.

While I appreciate the humor in the retaliation posts, have a little mercy on us lakefront owners who can hear normal conversation on the lake at 500 yds.

Glad to hear I'm not the only disgruntled "old fart" who has thought of good ways to retalliate. Now, the bigger question is, who's going to be the first to post a video of one us geezers showing up the young crowd?

Re: Rant!
Loud music and people being inconsiderate are not the problems.... they are merely symptoms of the problem. So, just what is that problem? The problem is that we are slowly becoming too stupid as a society to gather in large groups. We (as a society) no longer have the intelligence or interpersonal skills to get along peacefully, or even the basic self-awareness to conduct ourselves in a civil manner.
It is the movie "Idiocracy" unfolding in front of you. It is truly an intelligence deficiency and it is rampant throughout our society. It is sad, but I think it is true. It is primarily poor parenting or lack of parenting that has caused it over the last few decades. It's a snowball. The vary people with the inability to demonstrate even the most basic level of intelligence are the vary people who will raise (OK, not really raise, but merely produce) the next generation. On and on it goes.
Good luck turning that around! I don't think we can do it. I truly hope I'm wrong, though. Please tell me I'm wrong!!!!
