I have made a decision. It’s time. Even though we are still well into flood conditions, even though the road to my dock is still a foot underwater, even though the dock itself is just sort of floating there and unusable, even though there are dock pieces and bogs floating all over the lake-an aquatic obstacle course of sorts, even though we just got another massive rainstorm last night (note the happy little uptick in the trend?), I feel that the loss of 2 months of the 4 month good weather window is quite enough thank-you.
I mean dang it, I’ve already blown through not one but TWO (2 week) vacations without a single pleasure cruise. Vacation #3 starts tomorrow and damn it all, I’m goin’ boatin’….even tho there is MORE rain forecast. I talked to my marina guy and OK’d it to tie to a pair of posts. The logistics are a bit daunting…I will have to duct tape some rubber to the posts to protect the boat, wade about three blocks to get to it through a mosquito infested swamp, park on the highway with crazy touristas zipping by, check on my mooring almost daily. Don’t care anymore. Mother Nature can shove it. I have beer. Launching. Wish me luck.

We've had our share of excess water ourselves this year. The water from thaw out till after memorial day was simply running to high to even consider launching the boat even if there were any docks in the water to tie it off to, which there wasn't. Since then we've nearly been grounded on the sand bar a few times because the water came down so much overnight. And on another occasion we also got washed off the sandbar in the middle of the night because of a golly-washer that occurred upstream. All in all it hasn't been the best year for boating but we've enjoyed all the time we've been able to boat.
Now get yours launched and have a good time....

Todd, you're at the wrong end of the state. Sunday I was on the Mississippi out of Wabasha MN. It was a little high and coffee brown from runoff, but great weather and good boating. Hope your area improves soon.
